Introduction to Arm Balances Workshop with Kim Hoover

Do you want to learn how to get upside down, but not really sure where to start? Do you have a practice in some inversions but want a place outside of regular class to learn or review the fundamentals?

Then join Kim in this inviting introduction to inversions and arm balances!

Kim will provide tips on the flexibility and strength required to build toward 3 foundational arm balances you can add to your regular vinyasa practice. Follow your curiosity, find confidence, and enjoy a sense of play in a supportive learning environment in this workshop.

We will focus on these 3 arm balances:

  • Pincha Mayurasana, the forearm balance, a peak pose that defies gravity and stills the mind

  • Variation of Adho Mukha Vrksasana, or handstand, to “float" forward from down dog

  • Sirsasansa, classical headstand, to integrate your core for advanced inversions

All levels are welcome! You do not need a current inversion or arm balance practice to participate, and seasoned practitioners are also welcome.

Kim Hoover is a 500 hr YTT who has taught for almost a decade in Pennslyvania and Oregon. Her asana training is primarily from teachers of the Ashtanga-Vinyasa lineage, including direct students of Pattabhi and Manju Jois. She has also trained in structural integration, anatomy, and yoga sutra philosophy with Bhavani Maki.
